Bereavement and Loss
Bereavement is a universal experience. we all lose family members, partners, friends or pets at some stage in our lives.
When it happens to you, you may feel very alone. You may go through a whole range of emotions, sadness, disbelief, anger, guilt, periods of calm and longing. Sometimes these feelings can go on for many years with people often getting 'stuck' in their grief.
These feelings may also happen when you suffer a loss such as relationship breakup, losing your job or even moving home.
Children often need help understanding and remembering and may need to talk to someone who feels able to answer their questions.
It can be very helpful to talk to someone who really wants to listen and understand and counselling can help you accept what has happened and make the most of your life from now on.
Depression and Anxiety
Most people at some point in their lives find coping with day to day life difficult.
If you are feeling sad or empty, tearful, have a loss of interest in things and people and find little pleasure in anything, you may be depressed.
You may also suffer from difficulty sleeping, loss of energy, lack of appetite, feelings of worthlessness, guilt or an inability to think or concentrate.
If you are suffering from anxiety as well as feeling a range of emotions you could suffer from physical symptoms such as tension, light headedness, increased heart rate, flushed cheeks or panic attacks.
I can help you understand your illness, find ways to deal with it and overcome it.
It can be very hard to live with a person with depression or anxiety and it can be helpful to work with a counsellor to talk about your own feelings while you are offering support.
At some point in their lives one out of five people suffer from some form of anxiety or depression.
Depression is an illness and the intense feelings that accompany it can be hard to accept. You may have been living with them for a long time. Counselling can help you accept how you feel, learn more about yourself and recover.
Panic Attacks and Anxiety, Obsession and Compulsions
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is extremely effective for high levels of anxiety, panic attacks and obsessions such as constant checking, cleaning or tidying. Also helpful for compulsions such as gambling, alcohol addiction and food addiction.
These things together with phobias such as agraphobia respond well to this type of counselling and I have worked successfully with many people who go on to lead life without their issue.
These things together with any number of similar problems are very common and a large number of people suffer for many years unnecessarily.
I will also teach you skills to ensure that you can go forward knowing that you are able to cope should the same feeling resurface.
I would be happy to talk things through with you confidentially.
