About Jane Hancock
I am Jane Hancock, a Senior Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist based in Exmouth, Devon, with more than 20 years' experience working with adults and couples.
Over the course of my career I have worked in private practice as well as within NHS, charitable and workplace settings. I have also spent ten years lecturing on the Counselling Diploma at Exeter College, supporting the development and training of future counsellors.
I am a Fellow of the International Society of Psychotherapy and Counselling (ISPC) and a Senior Accredited Clinical Supervisor.
I work in an integrative and person-centred way. This means that I don't believe counselling should follow a rigid formula. Everyone is different, and I draw on appropriate therapeutic approaches according to your needs, personality and what you would like to achieve.
I have also undertaken specialist training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) at the Oxford Cognitive Therapy Centre.
Over more than two decades as a counsellor, I have supported people experiencing many different difficulties, including anxiety, stress, depression, bereavement and loss, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, life changes, trauma and workplace issues.
You don't necessarily need to know exactly what feels wrong before contacting a counsellor. Sometimes having a confidential and non-judgemental space to talk can be the starting point for understanding what is happening and deciding what you would like to change.
I believe that professional training, supervision and continuing professional development are important parts of being a counsellor.
My current professional credentials and memberships include:
I am committed to maintaining my professional development and working within appropriate ethical and professional standards.
